About City

Frankfurt am Main commonly known as Frankfurt is the largest city in the German state of Hessen and the fifth-largest city in Germany located on the river Main. Frankfurt is the dynamic and international financial and trade fair city with the most imposing skyline in Germany. The city is in the heart of Germany and Europe it offers many other facets and contrasting variety. Frankfurt has varied and comprehensive cultures offering an excellent reputation at both the national and international level. The highlights of the Frankfurt cultural scene undoubtedly include the ‘Museumsufer’, where 11 well-known museums are lined up like a string of pearls on both sides of the Main. Around 50 other museums and exhibition halls are situated in the immediate vicinity or in a central location.

Frankfurt is the largest financial centre in continental Europe and ranks among the world's leading financial centres. It is home to the European Central Bank, Deutsche Bundesbank, Frankfurt Stock Exchange and several large commercial banks. The Frankfurt Stock Exchange is one of the world's largest stock exchanges by market capitalization and accounts for over 90 percent of the turnover in the German market. Due to its central location within Germany and Europe, Frankfurt is a major air, rail and highway transport hub. Frankfurt Airport is one of the world's busiest international airports by passenger traffic and the main hub for Germany's flag carrier Lufthansa, the largest airline in Europe. Frankfurt Central Station is one of the largest railway terminal stations in Europe.

A unique feature of Frankfurt is its significant number of skyscrapers and high-rise buildings in the city center which form the Frankfurt skyline. Frankfurt is one of only a few cities in the European Union that have such a skyline. Because of the city's skyline, Germans sometimes refer to Frankfurt as "Mainhattan", a portmanteau of the local Main River and Manhattan.

Weather in Frankfurt is some of the warmest in Germany. Offering mild summers and cooler winters, Frankfurt weather is categorised as temperate-oceanic. The average annual temperature for the city is 10°C. During the summer (June to August) temperatures rarely peak above 25 °C and remain warm enough to visit the stunning Frankfurt. While in winter (December to February) lows can sometimes reach into the negatives.
